Giant Twix

Chocolate, caramel and crunchy cookie, a combination that should be a sin. What if we sin on large scale?

My dear readers, today I am feeling a bit guilty for publishing this recipe. I am sure you will love it, you will be stunned and will want to eat up this baking wonder. But I have to admit that this is a sugar and calories bomb, and your health will be happy if you don’t eat that every day. Whatever, this bizarre chocolate bar is a sure bet if you want to impress someone.

Are you still overwhelmed for seeing this colossal chocolate bar? I look at the pictures and still make me feel guilty (yes, because I already ate it…). If you like caramel, you are going to enjoy until the very last crumb. Although, this caramel is more like a “dulce de leche”, since it is done from condensed milk.

And you will be wondering where does this idea of making a giant Twix comes from? Well, it comes from my loved husband. Yes, he has some weird ideas in his head, and one in particular is dreaming about giant food. I still remember the first time he told me how much he will enjoy if he could eat an olive big as a watermelon. Yes, yes, I also don’t get it but he will be really happy.

So, I’ve decided to make this giant Twix for Saint Marc’s day. And well, what can I say, his eyes were pure emotion when I saw it. But, I can see some of you with the same eyes looking at the screen right now! No one can say that it does not look amazing!

Thought, I think this time you don’t really care if it takes time or not, you want to do it anyway. You already saw the pictures, they caught you and now they are on control of your decisions!! Well just listen to them and continue reading!

Serves: 12-14
Cooking Time: 1 hour. Total 7 hours

Ingredients

  • 400 g condensed milk (in a can)
  • 150 g butter at room temperature
  • 35 g white sugar
  • 30 g icing sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 175 g flour
  • 50 g cornstarch
  • 100 + 250 g milk chocolate

Instructions

1

Firstly, you have to prepare the caramel. I recommend that you do this step the previous day. In a sauce pan filled with water boil the condensed milk can (closed) during 6 hours. Make sure the can is always covered with water. Remove the can from water and let it to cool completely overnight.

2

On the next day, prepare the cookie. Preheat the oven at 175ºC. Beat white sugar, icing sugar and butter until soft and fluffy, for about 5 minutes.

3

Mix flour with salt and cornstarch and add it to the butter mixture. Beat until incorporated. Cover a rectangular pan of about 11×30 cm with baking sheet, as shown in the picture. Pour the dough and press it with a spoon until leveled. Bake for about 50 minutes, until it gets a golden color.

4

Remove from the oven and let it cool a bit. Chop 100 g of chocolate and melt it. Pour it over the cookie base and let it cool untill it gets hard.

5

Once the chocolate is hard, spread the caramel regularly over the surface. You must have like 1cm thickness of caramel. Chill it for about 30 minutes.

6

Lastly, melt the rest of the chocolate and let it cool about 15 minutes. Remove the bar from the pan. With the help of a tea spoon, spread the melted chocolate all over the bar, making at the end some waves on the surface to emulate the Twix effect. Chill it for about 15 minutes.

Sweet dreams
