I do not know about you, but this cake reminds me to summer. Well, at the beginning of summer because oranges are kind of winter fruit. But the orange blossom, what do you tell me about the orange blossom? Yes, it smells like summer … It has a spongy crumb and something moist thanks to the ricotta, but it is also soaked in a mixture of honey and orange blossom essence that will give it a touch of juiciness, aroma and taste never imagined before! and as we are all a little crazy with the arrival of summer I want to celebrate with a giveaway that I will organize on Instagram, at the end of the post I explain everything 😉
Have you seen that I have used horizontal pictures in a post again? So, then do not say that I do not reconsider my positions. I’ve never liked how they look, but I’ve decided to give them another chance today and see how it looks all together. Although, I have already taken a look at the preview and I still prefer the vertical format, nothing to do is a thing of the template of my blog, they just look much better.
Talking about photography, (warning: irrelevant subject chating coming!) yesterday my new DSLR camera arrived !! And I’m soooo in love with it. It’s a Canon 77D, with that camera I can also record video, although in a previous post I told you that I do not see myself on YouTube, but hey, if I change my mind (as with the horizontal photos), the camera is ready to it. Since I started with the blog I have been shooting with a Canon 450D, many people have asked me many times which camera I use. Well that’s what I used, an old and super limited model that I bought second hand at a good price.
Actually the subject of photography is not so irrelevant to the blog, because for me a super important part of the content that I publish is photography. So I’m still talking a little bit about the subject. Going back to the camera, I tell you what I have always told people who asked me, you do not need the best (and most expensive) camera in the world, especially if you are just starting, to take good pictures. It is much more important to invest in good lenses. That’s what I did, as soon as I put a little money together, I bought a good Canon lens for shooting the photos of the blog, the model 50mm f1/4. Macro lenses are the best choice for food photography, generally for close-up shots. And also with low aperture objectives (the famous F) you can get the beautiful blurred background effects.
Personally, my old camera was becoming too limited for me, and I was beginning to lack features that the most modern ones have, that’s why I decided to change it. When it comes to buying cameras and lenses there are a lot of criteria to consider, and what is most important is what it is going to be used for. A single camera can be used for many types of photography, but each lens is intended for a specific type of photography. If you want to know more I recommend reading blogs about photography, after all I’m just an amateur but I’m always happy to help. A photography blog that I follow and has helped me learn many things is dzoom.org
I also recommend you to follow official accounts of camera manufacturers in social networks, because this way you can keep up to date with models and also sometimes make small online tutorials that are useful for learning little things. The same with photo postprocessing software, for example Lightroom or Photoshop usually make many online tutorials that are super useful. Post-processing of photography and we will talk in another post, because here there is discussion for a while. But I can tell you somthing, absolutely ALL the pictures that you see in famous blogs or ALL the pictures of professional photographers are post processed, and this is much more important than the camera with what you are shooting. And here I leave a picture of the scene of this post (you can see my dirty feet too hehehe)
There are some details such as lighting, composition, the use of light filters or reflectors, shooting angles, etc. which are also important in the aesthetic result of an image. I could tell you more things, but as I said I’m just an amateur who still has a lot to learn and it’s better to look at the professionals blogs where they sometimes share some technics. I will be happy of course to answer questions or help as much as I can, leave me a comment or drop me an e-mail 🙂

Ingredients
- CAKE:
- 190 g flour
- 60 g cornstarch
- 10 g baking powder
- 3 eggs
- 200 g sugar
- 10 g honey
- 120 ml mild vegetable oil
- 150 ml milk
- 200 g ricotta
- The zest of an organic orange
- The juice of half orange
- TO SOAK THE CAKE:
- 2 Tbsp honey
- 3Tbsp of orange blossom water
- The juice of half orange
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 170ºC. Grease the pan well and sprinkle with flour. Drain the ricotta well and reserve.
In a bowl sift together all the dry ingredients.
In another bowl mix the sugar with the eggs and beat until you have a light and frothy mixture. Add the rest of the liquid ingredients and the ricotta and mix well until they are well integrated.
Add the mixture of dry ingredients mixing just until there are no lumps of flour. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for about 45 minutes, or until when poking the cake with a wooden stick, come out dry, but not completely the crumb has to be wet.
Remove from the oven and let cool on a rack for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes unmould the cake fliping the pan, and let cool completely.
Just before serving, prepare the mixture to soak the cake mixing all the ingredients and beating vigorously until they combine. Using a kitchen brush, paint the entire surface of the cake with the liquid mixture until it is soaked regularly.
